Stockholms pedagogiska vägg : Gatukonstpedagogik – Offentligheten som lärorumWorkshopping for public space / Stockholms pedagogical wall : Workshopping for public space

Children have a right to take part in, and shape our public space. This is something thedemocratic grown up world needs to create and manage a space for. With this study, I look atthe possibilities to create and manage such a space and what happens when I do so. Duringfive months, I have had the responsibility to follow through five projects with four preschoolsand one school, projects that seek to find methods for creating art done by children in thepublic. Responsibility comes from me being connected to the city’s district administration, and with that connection I have taken the role as a project manager to examine how thisproject could sustain for a longer period. I also examine through the eyes of being a visual artsteacher student and therefore I look at what the children choose to create with the methods Igive them. All the methods involve collective creation as the children pursue the methods ingroups and that is something that has become an interresting aspect for this thesis. With thisthesis, there is visual representation in forms of a magazine and a wall painted for thespringexhibition at Konstfack. The magazine contains pictures and text from the workshopand should be seen as an inspirational magazine for other educators. The wall that was paintedis an extention from Stockholms pedagogical wall in to the institution of Konstfack andtherefor also a democratic approach to use the well-known exhibition and let childrenparticipate. During the project, I have asked myself how I can create methods for workingwith art in the public in groups with children. The project has the subtitle workshopping forpublic space which is a wordplay that raises the question about the politics concering publicspace, I want you, the reader to think about public space and if it is something we should buyour right to use or if it is something we have the democratic right to use. Therefore, I haveused this wordplay because the projects use workshops to examine this question. The essayhas a visual representation in form of a magazine with photographs and text that shows theprocess of the didactic part. This essay, and the visual representation will hopefully give youas a reader thoughts and questions about how we can work with our public realm.
