"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” (UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1, p.3). Democratic values are concepts that are made visible in the curriculum and which, among other things, form the basis for schools to educate good citizens. Democratic values are something that can be linked to something that is constantly going on in the school sphere whether it is teaching or not. Teachers have a mission to shape students into good citizens, social studies teachers can be considered to have a particularly important mission, because democratic values are taught within the social studies subject. In this paper, It is examined in this work how educators who teach the subject of social studies in theoretical and practical programmes at upper secondary school interpret and implement democratic values based on the curriculum. Furthermore, it is investigated how teachers argue regarding what should be included in teaching when it comes to the democratic mission. This work is based on findings as well as earlier research. This study is anchored in a qualitative research method, six interviews with teaching social studies teachers.
