The aim is to highlight women's experience of living with bipolar disorder. Mental health is one of Sweden's largest public health problems and women are more often affected. Bipolar disorder is chronic and involves commuting in different forests in the form of mania and depression. The disease causes great suffering, constant concern and anxiety about ending up in a new forest or losing control of itself. Person-centered nursing is used in healthcare to highlight the importance of reflecting on the life-world perspective that involves seeing the person behind the disease. Through knowledge of the patient's experience, thoughts, experiences and interpretations about the disease, the nurse can individually adapt the nursing care to fit the patient in the best way. A qualitative content analysis was chosen based on three pathographies. Based on Graneheim and Lundman's description of content analysis, analysis of data was performed. The analysis resulted in three categories and nine subcategories. The women who lived with bipolar disorder described that they experienced commuting feelings, they ended up in forests and felt a need for relief. The women experienced a changing world of life, as it was difficult to distinguish between reality and not. An altered self-esteem saw the women because the disease meant they were not the same person anymore. The women experienced shame and powerlessness.Living with bipolar disorder involves commuting emotions, a changing world of life and changing self-esteem. In order to provide a person-centered nursing, it is an essential part as a nurse to have knowledge of the affected women living with bipolar disorder.
