Previous issue date: 2016-06-27 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / In this dissertation we have worked with the narrative form of three German writers who fought in World War II. In his own most important fictional work each one of these writers, G?nter Grass, Dieter Noll and Hans Helmut Kirst, has sought inspiration in his personal life to narrate his experiences during wartime. With different origins and motivations, these authors supported in their books certain points of view concerning how German society faced World War II. Based on their memories, characterized by shortcomings, fabrication and modifications, whether intentional or not, the creators of these fictional works presented different versions of the 20th century?s most defining event. With The Tin Drum Grass addressed social complicity towards the regime and exposed the German society by means of acid criticism, while at at the same time reviewing the circumstances of his own participation in the Nazi dictatorship. In The Adventures of Werner Holt Noll explored the naivety of a youth that let itself be deceived by the certainties of an immoral system. By presenting the learning path of his young protagonist (employing the German subgenre Bildungsroman) Noll was able to revise his wartime experiences. With the novel 08/15 In War Kirst championed the point of view of cornered soldiers who were themselves victims of the regime much in the same way as the prisoners of concentration camps, since they were not offered any other choice but to fight in a dirty war. The three authors have experienced a meaningful reception from the public and consequently have demonstrated that the same history can have countless versions.
