Previous issue date: 2012-09-21 / This work aims to discuss the representation of the figure of Lebanese immigrant
in Brazil in the novels Lavoura arcaica, of Raduan Nassar, and Dois irmãos, of Milton
Hatoum. The comparative study has as its starting point the concept of diaspora, forced
displacement of large masses or stimulated coming from one area to host various regions, to
consider the issue of cultural hybridity in fictions. The research is aligned to historical facts
about Lebanese immigration, the authors' biographical information and elements of Arab
culture to compare the narratives, noting the similarities and dissimilarities in their respective
thematic scenarios. / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discutir a representação da figura do
imigrante libanês no Brasil nas obras Lavoura arcaica, de Raduan Nassar, e Dois irmãos, de
Milton Hatoum. O estudo comparativo apresenta o conceito de diáspora, deslocamento
forçado ou estimulado de grandes massas oriundas de uma área para várias regiões de
acolhimento, para demonstrar como o hibridismo cultural se apresenta nas ficções. A
investigação se pauta em fatos históricos sobre a imigração libanesa, informações biográficas
dos autores e elementos da cultura árabe para comparar as narrativas, atentando para as
semelhanças e dessemelhanças temáticas em seus respectivos enredos.
