Arkitekturcentralen var ett sätt för oss tre att undersöka behovet av, och förutsättningarna för, en ny institution för arkitektur i Stockholm, samt utveckla nya former och arenor för hur man kommunicerar arkitektur. Det kommer ur en djupt känd förvirring och frustration över situationen i Stockholm vad gäller det offentliga samtalet om arkitektur och staden, och de rådande förhållandena inom vår bransch, där kortsiktig spekulativ ekonomi får styra alltmer över vad som byggs. Vi undersökte detta genom att starta Arkitekturcentralen, att undersöka genom att vara, och att vara genom att göra. Vi har under perioden för examensarbetet arrangerat en rad aktiviteter på vårt kontor på skolan, gått på väldigt många samtal, intervjuat en mängd personer och berörda aktörer inom serien "Månadens Trauma", där vi genom några specifika fall lyft fram och diskuterat olika typer av förändringar i staden och processerna kring dessa. Vi har även producerat två broschyrer; en karta om var och hur det förs samtal om arkitektur och staden i Stockholm och en plansch som beskriver detaljplaneprocessen, de relevanta men ibland svåra ord som förekommer i den, samt hur och när man som medborgare kan påverka. Det mesta vi gjort finns på vår hemsida www.arkitekturcentralen.se. Terminen avslutades med ett samtal med juryn om vårt arbete, om arkitektens roll och om arkitektur och staden. Arkitekturcentralen är tänkt att leva vidare. / Through Arkitekturcentralen, we have examined the need of and the conditions for a new institution of architecture in Stockholm. We were also interested in developing new forms and forums for communicating architecture. It comes out of a deeply felt confusion and frustration over the situation in Stockholm, the public discourse on architecture and the city and the prevailing conditions in the building industry, where short-term speculative economy more and more decides what is being built and how. We investigated this by starting Arkitekturcenralen - by searching by being and being by doing. During the period of the thesis we organized a series of activities in our office at the school, visited many events such as debates, seminars and talks, interviewed a variety of people and stakeholders within the series "The Trauma of the month", where we highlighted and discussed various types of changes in the city and the processes around them trough some specific cases. We have also produced two brochures; a map of where and how the conversation about architecture and the city in Stockholm is held and a poster describing the zoning process, the relevant but sometimes difficult words that appear in it and how and when the citizens can take part in the process. Most of our work is presented on our website www.arkitekturcentralen.se. The semester ended with a conversation with the jury about our work, about the role of the architect and the architecture and the city. The work with Arkitekturcentralen will continue after the end of this thesis project.
