Previous issue date: 2017-07-27 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico (CNPq) / O presente trabalho objetiva analisar o romance Dois Irm?os, de Milton Hatoum, tendo como categoria anal?tica o sil?ncio, com o intuito de contribuir junto aos estudos sobre a fic??o brasileira moderna, de modo geral, e em particular ?s investiga??es acerca da obra do autor, considerando as tens?es vis?veis entre a forma de express?o e a forma de conte?do. Trata-se de analisar o texto liter?rio em sua articula??o com a sociedade, procurando identificar, na fic??o estudada, o processo de constru??o das elipses que consiste no que podemos chamar de uma po?tica do sil?ncio. Para a an?lise espec?fica da representa??o do sil?ncio no romance em estudo, temos como aporte te?rico as sistematiza??es do pensamento cr?tico de Roland Barthes (2003), em sua obra O Neutro, a reflex?o cr?tica de Lourival Holanda (1992), em Sob o signo do sil?ncio, bem como a obra As formas do sil?ncio, de Eni Puccinelli Orlandi (2007). No que diz respeito ao tratamento dado ?s rela??es entre literatura e sociedade, tomamos como fundamenta??o o m?todo cr?tico de Antonio Candido (1965), em Literatura e Sociedade, e tamb?m a perspectiva te?rica de Raymond Williams (1979), em Literatura e Marxismo. Sob essa abordagem, buscou-se uma compreens?o segundo a qual o est?tico e o social se articulam e se conjugam sem o apagamento de suas singularidades, conforme o pensamento de Candido (1965), para quem a literatura ?, em sua especificidade de linguagem, um objeto art?stico aberto ao social. Assim, o m?todo adotado para a an?lise do romance Dois Irm?os considera o texto e o contexto, partindo do pressuposto de que a literatura ?, de uma s? vez, uma realidade de linguagem e uma realidade social e hist?rica. / This work aims to analyze the novel Dois irm?os, by Milton Hatoum, whose analytical category is silence, in order to contribute with the studies on Brazilian's modern fiction in general and in particular the investigations about the author's work, considering the visible tensions between the form and the expression of the form of content. It is about analyzing the literary text in its relationship with society, seeking to identify, in the studied fiction, ellipses' building process which consists in what we can call a poetics of silence. For specific analysis of silence representation in the novel, we have as theoretical support Roland Barthes' (2003) systematization of critical thinking, in his work O Neutro, Lourival Holanda's (1992) critical reflection, in Sob o signo do sil?ncio, and As formas do sil?ncio, by Eni Puccinelli Orlandi (2007). In what concerns the treatment of relations between literature and society, we take as basis Antonio Candido's (1965) critical method, in Literatura e Sociedade, and also Raymond Williams' (1979) theoretical perspective, in Literatura e Marxismo. By this approach, we sought an understanding according to which the aesthetic and social articulate and come together without erasing their singularities, as Candido's (1965) thought, to whom literature is, in its language specificity, an open artistic object to social. Thus, the method adopted for the analysis of the novel Dois Irm?os considers the text and the context, assuming that literature is, at once, a language of reality and a social and historical reality.
