Previous issue date: 2014-01-07 / This work is intended to further discuss some plausible strategies to prevent the occupational stress observed on the academic staff of some universities in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. A total of fifteen successful faculty members were interviewed, all presenting at least 20 working hours a week, and at least ten years experience at their faculty position. The interviews were conducted from a structured script, recorded and analyzed according to the Method for Content Analysis of Bardin. The theoretical grounds of this research is based on previous work involving welfare of educators, the Positive Psychology and several other studies concerning this issues. The results revealed the following categories : time, motivation, physical activities, leisure and spirituality. Indeed, it was possible to identify that the mostly used strategies of confronting presented by these individuals were the ones related to their leisure activities; emotional capabilities and their work motivation; to their engagement into physical activities; to their ability to efficiently organize and manage their free time versus professional and domestic demands, and to their spirituality. The implications of this work point to the development of programs of individual and group competences to the faculty involved in this routine, seeking to focus on these five topics as the major polices of prevention to be further assessed in confrotning the occupational stress of the academic staff on private higher education institutions. / Essa pequisa teve como objetivo aprofundar a discuss?o a respeito das estrat?gias poss?veis de preven??o ao estresse ocupacional de professores do Ensino Superior de institui??es de ensino da regi?o metropolitana de Porto Alegre-RS, Brasil. Foram entrevistados quinze professores com carga hor?ria semanal acima de 20 horas semanais e mais de 10 anos de profiss?o como educadores em suas universidades. As entrevistas foram realizadas a partir de um roteiro estruturado, sendo gravadas e ap?s analisadas pela T?cnica da An?lise de Conte?do segundo Bardin. A fundamenta??o te?rica teve como base os estudos sobre o mal e o bem-estar docente, a Psicologia Positiva e diversas pesquisas anteriores sobre essas tem?ticas. Os resultados revelaram as seguintes categorias: tempo, motiva??o, atividades f?sicas, lazer e espiritual. Sendo poss?vel detectar que as estrat?gias de enfrentamento mais utilizadas por eles foram as que estavam relacionadas ?s suas atividades de lazer; ao preparo emocional e ? sua motiva??o para o trabalho; ao investimento em atividades f?sicas em seu cotidiano; ? sua capacidade de organiza??o e gest?o eficiente de seu tempo livre entre as demandas profissionais e as dom?sticas e ? sua viv?ncia da espiritualidade. As aplica??es do estudo apontam para a constru??o de programas de desenvolvimento de compet?ncias individuais e coletivas para os docentes envolvidos neste cotidiano, buscando focar nestas cinco quest?es como as principais estrat?gias de preven??o a serem aprofundadas no enfrentamento ao estresse ocupacional dos educadores do ensino superior privado.
