Previous issue date: 2003-06-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O presente trabalho objetivou analisar as influências da Associação de Pequenos Agricultores do Estado da Bahia (APAEB) sobre a qualidade de vida das famílias de associados e a sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento local, no município de Valente, BA. A APAEB é uma organização socioeconômica resultante da articulação da sociedade civil, por meio de um movimento que uniu pequenos agricultores da região sisaleira e ONGs nacionais e estrangeiras, visando valorizar o espaço local, alcançar a sustentabilidade do território e desenvolver o senso de cidadania. Com o intuito de fornecer subsídios para a análise e discussão dos resultados e, conseqüentemente, para o desenvolvimento e estruturação da pesquisa, fez-se uso de categorias de análise, como: participação cidadã, desenvolvimento local e qualidade de vida. Participaram da pesquisa 61 agricultores, residentes na zona rural do município baiano de Valente, além de lideranças locais e representantes da Associação. As características, percepções e condições do município e dos entrevistados foram obtidas por uma série de informações locais de fontes secundárias, bem como através de entrevistas e depoimentos, método histórico, relatos orais e survey. A análise dos resultados indicou que a atuação da APAEB, por meio da mobilização, cooperação entre seus membros e realização de diversos projetos, proporcionou melhoria na qualidade de vida de seus associados. Contudo, para o município como um todo, os benefícios foram parciais, basicamente por não existirem relação interinstitucional integrada e uma cultura de desenvolvimento que propiciasse uma convergência de integração, cooperação e competência. Em síntese, os esforços e a luta da APAEB trouxeram benefícios ao município de Valente, BA, que só não foram mais amplos, holísticos e sistêmicos porque não houve uma sinergia de ações ou um projeto coletivo de desenvolvimento local que fosse sustentável e com uma dimensão mais humana. / The present work had the objective to analyze the influences of the Association of Small Farmers of the State of Bahia (APAEB-Valente/BA), on the quality of life of the associate's families and its contribution to the local development in the municipal district of Valente/BA. APAEB is social-economic organization resultant of the articulation of the civil society, through a movement that united small farmers of the sisaleira area and national and foreign ONGs, with the objective of valuing the local space, to reach the sustainability of the territory and to develop the citizenship sense. With the intention of supplying subsidies for the analysis and discussion of the results and, consequently for the development and structuring of the research, it was used as analysis categories: citizen participation, local development and life quality. Were part of the research 61 farmers, that live in the rural zone of the municipal district of Valente, besides local leaderships and representatives of the association. The characteristics, perceptions and conditions in the municipal district and interviewees were obtained from many local information originated in secondary sources, as well as through interviews and depositions, for the historical method, oral reports and survey. The analysis of the results showed that the performance of APAEB provided improvement on the life quality of this associates. However, for the municipal district, the benefits were partial because of the lack of united actions and division of responsibilities with other entities. In synthesis, the efforts and the fight of APAEB brought benefits to the municipal district of Valente/BA, that only were not wider, holistics and systemics, because there wasn’t a synergy of actions or a collective project of local development, so that the same was sustainable and with more human dimension. / Dissertação importada do Alexandria
