Att vårda i ett palliativt skede : En litteraturöversikt om sjuksköterskors erfarenheter

Background: The objective of palliative care is to alleviate the physical, mental, and social suffering of a patient and to promote the quality of till patients die. The main task of a nurse is to provide nursing, that is totally based on the patients’ needs and wishes. To conduct person- centered care, nurses need to establish a functional caring relationship with both patients and family members. In palliative care, it is particularly important to show respect for relatives because relatives are affected as much as the patient. Aim: To describe nurses' experiences of caring for patients in a palliative phase. Method: A general literature review according to Friberg. Eight qualitative and two quantitative articles were analyzed. Results: three themes were identified and discussed on nurses’ experience in palliative care. These themes are the importance of communication, the importance of knowledge and experience and the importance of individual care for the unique person. Conclusion: Nurses needs knowledge and experience in palliative care, as well as competence in dealing with emotional suffering and emotional support.
