A problemática que conduziu esta pesquisa está formulada na seguinte questão: quais e como são construídas as representações da Educação Física no Ensino Médio em uma escola interiorana da Rede Estadual de Ensino do RS? Para compreender os conceitos e aspectos relacionados a este tema, fiz uma revisão de literatura sobre a Educação Física no âmbito do Ensino Médio e sobre as Representações Sociais. As decisões metodológicas a fim de alcançar o objetivo proposto estão ancoradas na pesquisa qualitativa, desenvolvida através de um estudo de caso etnográfico. Como procedimentos de coleta das informações, em consonância com a natureza da pesquisa, foram utilizados as entrevistas semiestruturadas, grupos de discussão, a observação participante registrada em diário de campo. O processo de interpretação e análise foi feito por meio da análise de conteúdo. A decisão de contar com diferentes indivíduos como colaboradores e participantes da pesquisa se dá pelo entendimento de que as representações são construções coletivas desenvolvidas através das relações sociais entre grupos, sendo pertinente abarcar o maior número possível de sujeitos pertencentes a esse coletivo A análise das informações está organizada em quatros seções: (1) Construção de hábitos saudáveis: a Educação Física como meio de combater ao sedentarismo; (2) Ocupação do tempo livre: a Educação Física como lazer; (3) Educação Física é esporte e (4) Os horizontes atuais da Educação Física na Escola. Compreende-se que existem práticas, representações e elementos que fazem com que a EFI repita práticas já enraizadas nas concepções higienista, militarista e esportivista, mas também parece haver elementos que a direcionam para outros caminhos. Contudo, as representações de EFI identificadas no contexto, estão atreladas umas as outras na medida em que se uma se move, a outra também vai sofrendo alterações. / This research is founded on the question of how are constructed the representations of the Physical Education on the Secondary Education in an inland school which integrates the State System Education of Rio Grande do Sul. In order to comprehend the concepts and aspects related to this theme, I made a literature review about Secondary Education‟s Physical Education and Social Representations. The methodological decisions in regard to achieve the proposed objective are based on the qualitative research, developed through an ethnographic case study. As procedures for data collection were utilized semistructured interviews, discussion groups and participant observation registered in a field journal. The interpretation and analysis process was made through content analysis. Considering that the research‟s objective involves the Social Representations matter, I counted with the Physical Education teachers, the supervision, the principal and a group of students as study collaborators This decision is based on the understanding that the representations are collective constructions developed through the social relations between groups, so it is relevant include as many individuals belonging to this collective as possible. The content analysis is organized in four sections: (1) Development of healthy habits: Physical Education as a means of combating physical inactivity; (2) Occupation of free time: the Physical Education as leisure; (3) Physical Education… is sport and (4) The current horizons of Physical Education in the school. I understand that there are practices, representations and elements that make EFI repeat practices already rooted in the hygienist, militaristic and sportivist conceptions, but there also seems to be elements that direct it to other paths. However, the EFI representations identified in the context of research are linked one to each other; insofar as one moves, the other also undergoes changes.
