Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka socialsekreterares upplevelser och utmaningarmed tolkanvändning i det professionella mötet. Studien utgick från en kvalitativ metod sombestod av sju semistrukturerade intervjuer. En tematisk analysmetod tillämpades somskapade två huvudteman: det mellanmänskliga - genom en tredje part och socialsekreteraressyn på det praktiska arbetet med tolk. Den insamlade empirin analyserades utifrån studiensteoretiska utgångspunkter, makt och kommunikationsteori. Studiens resultat visade attsocialsekreterare har både positiva och negativa erfarenheter av tolkanvändning. De negativaerfarenheterna överväger de positiva och innefattar relationsskapande, kommunikation,rättssäkerhet och tolkens professionalitet. En central aspekt i studien är att tolken ärnödvändig när parterna saknar ett gemensamt språk. Vid feltolkningar kan det professionellamötet påverkas negativt vilket även har en inverkan på det sociala arbetet.Sammanfattningsvis betonar socialsekreterarna att tolkar behöver utveckla sinprofessionalitet för att arbetet ska bli så gynnsamt som möjligt för klienten. / The purpose of this study was to investigate social workers' experiences and challenges withthe use of interpreters in the professional meeting. The study was based on a qualitativemethod that consisted of seven semi-structured interviews. A thematic analysis method wasapplied which created two main themes: the interpersonal - through a third party and thesocial worker's view of the practical work with an interpreter. The collected empiricalevidence was analyzed based on the study's theoretical framework, power andcommunication theory. The study's results showed that social workers have both positive andnegative experiences of using interpreters. The negative experiences outweigh the positiveones and include relationship building, communication, legal certainty and the interpreter'sprofessionalism. A central aspect of the study is that the interpreter is necessary when theparties lack a common language. In case of misinterpretations, the professional meeting canbe negatively affected, which also has an impact on the social work. In summary, the socialworkers emphasize that interpreters need to develop their professionalism in order for thework to be as beneficial as possible for the client.
