Bakgrund: I dagens samhälle ser arbetsmarknaden väldigt varierad ut när det kommer till vilket typ av företag en individ väljer att arbeta för. En stor majoritet av alla företag i Sverige består av små till medelstora företag med under 50 anställda. Det är i de flesta företags intresse att behålla de anställda inom organisationen, för att åstadkomma detta behöver de vet vad som motiverar de anställda i professionella sammanhang. Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka vad som motiverar individer i stora respektive små företag. Vidare kommer betydelsen av trygghet och säkerhet för individen vid val av arbetsplats att undersökas. Metod: Den metod som använts är en kvalitativ metod i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer med anställda i små respektive stora företag. En abduktiv forskningsansats har använts. Totalt sett så utfördes sex intervjuer uppdelade på tre med respondenter i mindre företag och tre i större företag. Slutsats: Den slutsats som kan dras för denna studie är att individer i mindre företag motiveras av att ha en möjlighet att påverka och växa företaget medans de får viktiga erfarenheter för karriären. Individer i större företag drivs till större grad av att ha en säker anställning. Gällande trygghet på arbetsplatsen så fann denna studie att individer i små respektive stora företag har olika definitioner av vad trygghet innebär. Individer i små företag baserar sin trygghet till större del på de förmågor, erfarenheter och den kunskapen som de får genom att vara med och bygga upp ett företag. Individer i större företag baserar till större grad sin trygghet i arbetsgivaren och att denne alltid kommer att finnas där för dem och de förmåner som finns med att arbeta för ett stort företag. / Background: In today's society the labor market offers a great variety when it comes to what size of a company an individual chooses to work for. A large majority of all companies in Sweden today consists of small to medium sized companies with under 50 employees. It is in most companies interests to keep the employees within the organization. To be able to do this the company needs to be aware of what motivates the employees at the workplace. Aim: The aim of this paper is to investigate what motivates individuals working in small and large companies. Furthermore the importance of security related to the workplace will be investigated. Methodology: The method used for this research is of a qualitative nature in the form of semi-structured interviews with employees of large and small companies. An abductive research methodology has been used. A total of six interviews were conducted. Three of the interviews were with individuals working for smaller companies and three were with individuals working in larger companies Conclusion: The conclusion that can be for this study is that individuals working for smaller companies are driven by the ability to impact and grow the company while gaining knowledge of how to do this. The individuals working for larger companies are driven by having a secure employer. When it comes to the security of employment this study finds that people in small and large companies have different views of what security means and what they base it on. Individuals in small companies base their security on their own capabilities, experiences and everything that comes with being involved in growing a company. Individuals in larger companies base their security largely on the organization that they work for and the knowledge that it will always have their back.
