Abstract Authors: Erica Forsberg och Jonathan Andersson Title: Discovering maltreated children – Obligation to report in preschool [Upptäcka barn som far illa – Anmälningskyldighet I förskola] Supervisor: Paula Wahlgren Assessor: We have conducted personal interviews with eight different preschool teachers to try to find out why there are fewer reports about maltreated children being made from preschools than from other instances that has contact with children and are obligated to issue such reports, but also what different preschool teachers consider to be maltreatment of children. We also want to know how they reason when facing a possible maltreated child. We have then compared our results to those of previous science reports and to our selected theories, profession theory and collaboration theory. The main conclusions are that background, previous experiences and also knowledge about what happens after a report is issued are all important factors when making the decision to issue a report. We also see that all the subjects we interviewed values information highly and would like more education on the subject of how to report, but also on how to discover if a child is being maltreated. We also see that there is often a need to problematize the situations in a bigger picture, and not only the specific issue that is visible for the preschool teachers at the moment that they are in contact with the children.
