Se mig som den jag är : En kvalitativ undersökning om sex prästbarns uppväxtupplevelser / See me as I am : A qualitative survey of six priest children and their childhood experiences

This paper discusses how six Swedish children experienced childhood growing up with a priest as a parent. The study investigates what factors might have affected the childrens religiosity and personal life. The study uses the socialization theory and the concepts of identity and social reproduction in order to answer the research questions. Semi-structured interviews have been used in this study. The results of this study showed that the occupation of their parents had no significant impact on the religiosity of the respondents. All of the interviewees went to church as children, but it did not mean they all committed to being Christians for the rest of their life. Previous research indicated that priest children were more likely to grow up to be priests. This research indicates that this is not always the case, based on the respondents. The study concludes that the priest children experienced that they did not receive specific roles or identities, its already been assigned by the society due to the occupation of the parents as priests. Even in adulthood, they were still referred to as priest children, and the priest children do not want to become priests because they missed their parents enormously since their parents were constantly working and were rarely around during their childhood.
