Något som väckt vårt intresse är hur vissa barn som växer upp i dysfunktionella miljöer, ändå kan leva ett fullt meningsfullt liv. Därför har vi i detta arbete valt att studera två självbiografier skrivna av författare som själva har vuxit upp under dysfunktionella förhållanden. Vi har på de valda böckerna gjort en textanalys. I dessa böcker har vi identifierat vilka risk-, skyddsfaktorer som har haft närvarande under deras uppväxt. Samt vilka copingstrategier som tagits till hjälp. Vi har även valt att använda oss av skam- och skuldperspektivet eftersom vi anmärkte att det utgjorde en central del i de båda självbiografierna. Slutsatsen blev att balansen av risk- och skyddsfaktorer i kombination med olika copingstrategier var en bidragande faktor till att författarna kunde hantera motgångarna. I en av böckerna blev det en betoning på skuld och i den andra boken blev skam något mycket centralt. / Some children grow up in a dysfunctional environment, yet are still able to live and lead a meaningful life. As this caught our interest, we chose to study two autobiographies written by authors who themselves come from a dysfunctional background. This literature is the pillar for the analysis, supporting this article. Through these novels, we have been able to discover and identify which risk factors, as well as protective factors, that have been represented during the authors’ upbringing and childhood. In addition to these factors, the discoveries also include which coping mechanisms and strategies the authors have benefited from. This article focuses upon viewing all events through the lense of both the shame and the guilt perspective, since it plays a central role in both autobiographies. Finally, the conclusion as to why the authors were able to cope with the experienced traumatic events in their early lives, was that of balance between risk - and protection factors, in addition to a variation of coping strategies.
