Men det är ju bara tjejer som kan vara lucia : Förskolans värld i bilderböcker utifrån ett hgenusperspektiv

Abstract The starting point for this study is to analyze and explore representations of gender in picture books depicting preschool. The Swedish preschool works after the curriculum, where work with gender is included, and with values that should reflect the practice. This work should be mediated by those who are active in the preschool. Literature, and the interpretation thereof, plays an important role in the preschool which this study will raise the importance of. Literature affects its receiver and the preschool in today’s society in Sweden is a common place for children, therefore this study will focus on picture books that portray the everyday depictions that take place in the preschool environment. Seven picture books released between 1976 and 2016 have been subjected to qualitative image and text analysis where the iconotext has a large place in the analysis of the study. The gender analysis is done with focus on which norms that are represented in literature, with gender markers and gender system connected to stereotypical behaviour with boys and girls in mind. This is also set in the relation to the current curriculum in the Swedish preschool. The investigation of these issues shows that the behaviour of the characters in the picture books both affirm and reject the norms that are connected to gender. This is shown in picture books from different eras
