No. of bitstreams: 0 / O dicionário bilíngüe é uma ferramenta de pesquisa presente na vida dos aprendizes de uma língua estrangeira, visto que auxilia o estudante a compreender essa "nova" língua que está sendo incorporada ao seu vocabulário e a expressar-se com base nela. Entre as informações trazidas pelos dicionários encontram-se as notas de uso ou usage notes, como também são conhecidas. Essas notas apresentam informações adicionais sobre as entradas dos verbetes nos dicionários, consideradas de grande importância aos aprendizes de uma língua estrangeira. Logo, torna-se necessária uma comparação entre essas notas de uso para demonstrar algumas situações nas quais elas são empregadas. Dada essa contextualização, o presente estudo teve como objetivo principal comparar as notas de uso, mais precisamente aquelas referentes às letras "a" e "t", em quatro dicionários escolares bilíngües português/inglês e inglês/português: Oxford Escolar (1999), Longman Escolar (2004), Larousse Essencial (2005) e Michaelis Escolar (2005). Para isso, além das pesquisas bibliográficas para definir os principais eixos teóricos do estudo, foram realizadas uma análise das notas de uso em dicionários de diferentes línguas e uma pesquisa de campo que teve o intuito de verificar se os alunos lêem e compreendem as informações apresentadas pelas notas de uso.
The bilingual dictionary is a research tool which is part of foreign language student´s life, since it helps the student to understand and express himself in this "new" language that he is learning. Among the information brought by dictionaries there are the usage notes. These usage notes present additional information about the word entry in dictionaries that are supposed to be very relevant to foreign language learners. Therefore, a comparison among the usage notes must be necessary to show some situations which they are used. Presented this contextualization, the present research analyses and classifies the notes of the letters 'a' and 't' from English/ Portuguese and Portuguese/ English in the following dictionaries: Oxford Escolar (1999), Longman Escolar (2004), Larousse Essencial (2005) and Michaelis Escolar (2005), comparing these dictionaries. Then, some theoretical research was done to define the main points of this study; the analysis of the usage notes in dictionaries of different languages; and a field research in order to check if the students can read and understand the information of the usage notes; that was also done in this paper.
