Avec La Vie mode d’emploi et Si par une nuit d’hiver un voyageur, Georges Perec et Italo Calvino ont montré à la fin des années 1970 que les expérimentations oulipiennes pouvaient devenir un moteur narratif puissant. Depuis, les oulipiens – en particulier Jacques Roubaud, Marcel Bénabou, Paul Fournel, Harry Mathews, Jacques Jouet, Hervé Le Tellier, Anne Garréta et Michèle Audin – n’ont cessé d’inventer de nouvelles façons de fabriquer des récits.La thèse a pour objectif de mettre en lumière les spécificités des méthodes oulipiennes dans la narration en prose, qui ont un fonctionnement et des effets distincts des méthodes appliquées à la poésie.Après une contextualisation historique et théorique, cette étude propose une cartographie des pratiques narratives du groupe, dans laquelle apparaissent différents champs d’exploration qui ne se réduisent pas à l’écriture sous contrainte : les transferts de structures, les expérimentations narratives, le recyclage des genres, l’écriture collective.Les projets d’écriture à plusieurs mains, initiés à partir des années 1990, constituent l’un des phénomènes les plus remarquables de l’Oulipo contemporain. Ils vont de pair avec le développement d’une culture de groupe, qui imprègne aussi l’invention individuelle par l’insertion de « signes d’appartenance » dans la narration : un réseau intertextuel se met ainsi en place entre les œuvres des oulipiens, qui apparaissent parfois dans leurs propres récits en tant que personnages. / With Life a User’s Manual and If on a winter’s night a traveler, Georges Perec and Italo Calvino showed in the late 1970s that the Oulipian experiments could be a powerful narrative engine. Since then, the Oulipian writers – in particular Jacques Roubaud, Marcel Bénabou, Paul Fournel, Harry Mathews, Jacques Jouet, Hervé Le Tellier, Anne Garréta and Michèle Audin – have kept inventing new ways of constructing narratives.The aim of the PhD is to highlight the specificities of the Oulipian methods in narrative prose, which operate differently than those in poetry.After situating these techniques in a historical and theoretical context, this study proposes a mapping of the narrative practices that traces the group’s explorations, which go beyond writing under constraints: transfers of structures, narrative experimentation, genre recycling and collective writing.This last method, originating in the 1990s, constitutes one of the most remarkable phenomena of contemporary Oulipo. It goes hand in hand with the development of group culture, which also permeates individual invention through the insertion of “signs of membership” in the narrative: an intertextual network is thus set up between the texts of the Oulipian writers, who sometimes appear in their own stories as characters.
