Em sentido oposto, o discurso social nega essa retomada à barbárie e sustenta a unidade familiar através da solidariedade e da amizade. A literatura costuma representar essa contradição de uma forma pouco espessa, quase que a querer fugir da discussão. No entanto, poucas vezes consegue omitir o quanto há de desencontro entre os integrantes do universo familiar: o conflito entre o indivíduo e o Outro está aquém da divergência de linguagens ou de objetivos. Na cronologia dos conflitos familiares, as fratrias compõem um especial recorte. Na literatura brasileira e portuguesa o tema é abordado inúmeras vezes, destacando algumas particularidades fraternas: a rivalidade, o egoísmo, a inveja, a disputa pela progenitura, a figura paterna,... A invenção do inimigo - literatura e fraternidade se concentra em três romances escritos em língua portuguesa, Esaú e Jacó (Machado de Assis), Pedro e Paula (Helder Macedo) e Dois irmãos (Milton Hatoum), procurando comprovar uma questão que é constantemente negada: cada um dos irmãos inventa no outro o inimigo. / The familiar relations history discloses that the hostility, the aggression and the foolishness are daily experiences, triteen for the frequency that they occur. In other hand, the social speech denies this retaken to the barbarism and supports the familiar unit through solidarity and friendship. Literature use to represent this contradiction in a little thick form, almost that to running away from the discussion. However, few times get to omit how much it has of failure in meeting between the familiar universe integrants: the conflict between the individual and the Other is on this side of the language or objective divergencies. In the familiar conflicts chronology, the brothers and sisters relationship compose a special clipping. In Brazilian and Portuguese literature the subject is innumerable times boarded, detaching some fraternal particularitities: the rivalry, the egoism, the envy, the progeneration dispute, the paternal figure...
