This paper aims at examining Swedish municipalities and companies' conditions for conducting maintenance at stormwater pond, as well as investigating its role in municipal stormwater treatment. The principal focus in this study discuss municipalities experience with stormwater ponds after commissioning, and whether the handling is influenced by the size of the municipalities. Furthermore, the function and content of management plans are examined, and the extent to which these are used in the municipal administrations. Two methods have been used, survey method and written document analysis. The survey was primarily used to get an overview of urban runoff, stormwater pond and the functions of management program among the persons responsible. Today documents have a governing role within many organizations, therefore stormwater management programs have been analysed and interpreted. A text and document analysis has been made of five municipalities stormwater management programs. The intension was to investigate similarities and differences between different programs and how the management actions relates to the scientific literature. The study shows that the type and size of the municipality has an impact on how the stormwater issue is perceived and the extent to which maintenance is carried out and management programs are established. The results show that maintenance is done to some extent, but a majority still lacks management programs. Respondents consider that stormwater management programs have a major role for ponds function. Further, respondents see stormwater ponds as one of several steps in the urban runoff removal process.
