Vi är våra egna verktyg och det gäller då att slipa verktygen : En intervjustudie baserad på socialarbetares upplevelser gällande psykosociala risker och strategier i det klientnära sociala arbetet / We are our own tools and it is then important to sharpen the tools : An interview study based on social workers' experiences regarding psychosocial risks and strategies in client-centered social work

The purpose of the study was to examine what social workers who work close to clients perceive as psychosocially risky and heavy in their work. Our intention was also to investigate what social workers do to deal with things that they feel are psychosocially heavy and risky, in their work with clients. The method used was a qualitative method, based on an interview study with a semi-structured interview method. Six respondents participated in the study. The result was analyzed with help of earlier research and theoretical concepts/perspectives, such as coping, stress, debriefing, psychosocial health in working life and demand-control. The result showed that social workers experience the combination of emotional involvement in clients situations and stress in form of a high workload, as psychosocially heavy and risky. To deal with what they experience is psychosocially heavy and risky, they use several different strategies. It can be strategies provided by the employer, for example external supervision or collegial supervision/case review, or own strategies such as doing things in everyday life that make one feel good. In addition to this, all social workers point out how important the support from colleagues is.
