The aim of this thesis is to explore rural discourses and representations through discourse analysis. The objective is to present examples of discourses that either challenge or reproduce the current rural discourse. The material will be analysed through an analytical framework designed by results from the previous research. The chosen method is inspired primarily by Critical Discourse Analysis. The material comes from two interest organisations for rural politics: Hela Sverige ska leva and Lantbrukarnas Riksförbund (LRF). They are the two largest organisations of this kind in Sweden. The results show that the two organisations represent slightly different discourses. Hela Sverige ska leva presents, partly, an alternative discourse. One of their explicit ambitions is to challenge the current discourse. LRF does not share that ambition and consequently they do not, generally, present an alternative to the current discourse. Altogether, the results demonstrate the difficulties with the position to challenge a discourse one is also part in.
