Distansarbete: Det nya normala? : En kvalitativ studie om distansarbete i kontexten av en global pandemi

The Covid-19 pandemic had a big impact on the world and the society we live in when lockdowns and social distancing made it impossible to meet other people and socialize in a normal way. Organizations also had to change their way of organizing work for their employees to minimize the risk of contagion. For many people this meant that the normal day to day work had to move from the office space to the safety of their home. This fast conversion to telework enlarged the importance of digital communication to manage collaboration and communication between colleagues. This new way of organizing work only through digital channels resulted in new kinds of questions regarding the effects on employee's life and perceived work situation. This study aims to shed light on these individual experiences to increase the understandings regarding this specific phenomenon. A qualitative research method was used for this study and the individual experiences were retrieved through interviews. We compared and analysed the empirical material in relation to current research and litterateur on the field. The main findings from this study showed that the opinions about telework and digital communication varied from individual to individual. The general view was that digital communication-channels did not have the ability to replace all the workplace interactions and that this kind of communications contributed to negative experiences of physical and psychological effects. We also found that organizational support, strategy, and digital competences where important factors for a successful transition from office work to telework and to make it work in the long run. This field of research is in many ways unexplored because of its actuality related to the extraordinary circumstances in the world. We hope that our findings can help our organization and others to observe and act upon the effects that has followed this immense change to create the best circumstances for their employees.
