Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka möjliga orsaker till unga vuxnas (18-24 år) behov av ekonomiskt bistånd, upplevelsen av att uppbära detta samt att nå ökad kunskap om vilket stöd unga vuxna behöver från kommunen för att öka möjligheten att bli självförsörjande. I denna kvalitativa studie genomfördes sex semistrukturerade intervjuer med unga vuxna som uppbar ekonomiskt bistånd. Resultat av studien visar att den främsta orsaken till behovet av ekonomiskt bistånd är att respondenterna saknar arbete. Resultat indikerar att detta är till följd av låg utbildningsnivå. Studien visar att respondenterna har positiva och negativa upp-levelser av att uppbära ekonomiskt bistånd. De positiva upplevelserna som respondenterna uttrycker är att det ges möjlighet till eget boende. Respondenterna uppger att de negativa upplevelserna är att de känner att andra i omgivningen ser ner på dem på grund av behovet av ekonomiskt bistånd. Slutligen visar studiens resultat att respondenterna önskar personligt och regelbundet stöd från socialsekreterarna för att vägen mot självförsörjning ska underlättas. / The intention of this study was to learn about possible causes of young adults (18-24 years) need of social welfare as well as their experience of receiving it. The intention was also to achieve more knowledge of what kind of support the young adults need from the social ser-vices to reach economic independence. The authors of this qualitative study did semi struc-tured interviews with six young adults who receive social welfare. The result indicates that the main reason for the need of social welfare is that the respondents are unemployed as a result of low levels of education. The study shows that the respondents have both positive and negative experiences of receiving social welfare. The positive experience is that the respond-ents express that they are having the opportunity to have their own apartment. The respond-ents indicated that the negative experience is that they feel that others around them dispar-age them because of their need of social welfare from social services. Finally, the result of this study shows that the respondents wish more personal and regular support from the social workers to become economic independent.
