run into the city and have to raise money over the costs of operation, that is, it has to make
profit. The spatial distribution of the lines depends on the time and region. The fare, the
amount of people standing in crowded buses, the salaries of employees of bus companies, all
of this, is subject to the logic of management of the bus service. The aim is to study the bus
system, contextualized in urban space and time, realizing that its private management logic
and the problems faced are the starting point for understanding the current configuration of
the collective transport in João Pessoa. The first chapter presents the bus system in João
Pessoa, bringing out the problems that users face on a daily basis, highlighting the link
between the problems and spatializations. In Chapter 2 we analyse the problems of the bus
service such as overcrowding and the high price of the fare. In Chapter 3 we discussed the
process of urbanization in capitalist society, establishing its relationship with the liberal logic
of collective transport. In Chapter 4 we will understand the formation of the private logic of
collective transport in João Pessoa, getting to know how to set up what today appears as a bus
service, with its various inefficiencies. In the last chapter of the dissertation, chapter 5, we
analyse the social movements fighting for a public transport, from the protests of June 2013,
reflecting on how they relate with the demand for public transport. / Atualmente, o transporte coletivo é gerenciado por empresas privadas de ônibus em João
Pessoa. Os ônibus circulam na cidade e tem que arrecadar dinheiro acima dos custos de
operacionalização, ou seja, tem que lucrar. A espacialização das linhas de depende do horário
e da região. O preço da passagem, a quantidade de pessoas em pé nos ônibus lotados, os
salários dos trabalhadores das empresas de ônibus, tudo isto, está submetido a uma lógica de
gerenciamento do serviço de ônibus. O objetivo é estudar o sistema de ônibus,
contextualizado no espaço e no tempo urbano, compreendendo que sua lógica de
gerenciamento privado e os problemas enfrentados, são o ponto de partida para entender a
configuração atual do transporte coletivo de João Pessoa. O primeiro capítulo apresenta o
sistema de ônibus em João Pessoa, trazendo a tona os problemas que os usuários enfrentam no
dia a dia, destacando o que há entre os problemas e as espacializações. No capítulo 2
analisamos os problemas do serviço de ônibus como a superlotação e o elevado preço da
tarifa. No capítulo 3 discutimos o processo de urbanização na sociedade capitalista,
estabelecendo a relação deste com a lógica liberal do transporte coletivo. No capítulo 4
entenderemos o processo de construção da lógica privada do transporte coletivo em João
Pessoa, conhecendo como se constituiu o que hoje se apresenta como um serviço de ônibus,
com suas várias ineficiências. O último capítulo da dissertação, o capítulo 5, os movimentos
que lutam por um transporte coletivo são analisados, a partir das manifestações de junho de
2013, refletindo como estes atuam na realidade na reivindicação por um transporte público.
