The purpose of the study is to investigate if the textbooks Geografi 1: människan, resurserna,miljön, hållbar utveckling by Peter Östman, Geografi 1 för gymnasieskolan by Jan Wiklundand Vår planet – Geografi 1 by Marko Sandelin and Karl Andersson corresponds with thesubject curriculum for Geography and specifically the course curriculum for Geography 1,with focus on the concepts of sustainable development and climate change. Furthermore, thestudy also looks at how these concepts connect to a geographical perspective and how such aperspective can inform these topics. Thirdly, there are comparisons made between thedifferent textbooks and differences and similarities are being explored.The result shows that there is a connection in how the concepts are being described andunderstood in the curriculum documents and in the course textbooks. In addition to this thereis a connection made between sustainable development and climate change and ageographical perspective. It is shown that the geographical perspective can inform anunderstanding in regard to these concepts and topics, as well as being present in connection tothe description of the concepts in the various textbooks. Lastly, the results show that there aredifferences as well as similarities between the books in regard to the investigated concepts.Through this work a contribution is made to the study of textbooks for Geography in Swedishupper secondary school education.
