Klimatpåverkan från väggkonstruktioner : En jämförelse av tre olika konstruktionstyper / Climate impact from wall constructions

Emissions of greenhouse gases are one of the biggest problems within the Swedish construction and real estate sector. In year 2019 this sector accounted for one-fifth of Sweden’s total emissions of greenhouse gases. One of Sweden’s environmental objectives is to have net zero emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere by 2045. On January 1st, 2022, a new law was put into effect that requires all new buildings that require a building permit to have a climate declaration. The goal of the new law is to increase the knowledge that the choice of material impacts greenhouse gas emissions. Today, only the product stage and the construction process stage are taken in account in the climate declaration. Future developments of the climate declaration may also include the user stage and the end of life stage in the climate declaration. This study is done on three types of wall constructions, a half sandwich wall of concrete, curtain wall with steel joists and a curtain wall with wood joists. Calculations of one square meter of each wall construction shows that the half sandwich wall has the highest emission of greenhouse gases and the curtain wall with wood joists has the lowest. Calculations of three types of insulation material was studied: stone wool, glass wool and wood-fiber insulation. The study showed that wood-fiber insulation was the best from anemission of greenhouse gases view.
