Sweden today is a quite multicultural country with people from all over the world. A large part of the population is descended from the Middle East, from where culture and religion can be foreign to us Swedes. Due to lack of knowledge regarding these religions stereotypical images can easily arise which can lead to fear or even hatred for the alien religion or the people belonging to the foreign religion. This paper aims to investigate how Swedish school books of the subject religion depict the phenomena of Islam phobia and anti-Semitism in their work over the past 40 years. This paper also intends to examine the similarities and differences in the depiction. My main question of this paper is "How is anti-Semitism and Islam phobia depicted in the school books?" Method used for this study is a content analysis. Content analysis is a form of text analysis that is used to describe characteristics of the messages embedded in texts. The terms anti-Semitism and Islam phobia origin portrayed both as consequences of historical reference that led to negative attitude against the specific religion and this, in turn, can lead to racism and discrimination.
