Att introduceras utan att vara på arbetsplatsen : En kvalitativ studie om nyanställdas upplevelser av en introduktionsprocess på distans

The introduction can be a crucial aspect for how well new employees will feel comfortableand socialized in their new workplace (Lindelöw, 2016). Due to the current corona pandemic, many organizations have had to restructure their work, which means that many employeescurrently work from home. This has also affected the introduction of new employees, as moreand more people get their introduction at a distance due to this. This study aims to contributea deeper understanding of how new employees experience their introductory process when ittakes place at a distance. To achieve the aim, the following questions were asked: How do new employees describe their introductory process when it takes place at a distance? What are the possibilities or hinder enlightened new employees when the introductory process takesplace at a distance? How can new employees' experiences of the introductory process thattakes place at a distance be understood based on the Demand-control-and support model?The empirical material was collected through six semi-structured interviews, where therespondents would: (1) have undergone and introduced at a distance, (2) only worked fromhome via digital tools, (3) have a permanent job, (4) have a post-secondary education and (5)be between 20-30 years. The collected material has further been analyzed on the basis of twotheories: Lindelöw's introductory model and Karasek's and Theorell's Demand-control- andsupport model. The results of the study showed that the respondents perceived theintroduction as insufficient and found it more difficult to learn their new tasks, be socializedin the organization and understand the norms and organizational culture at an introductionthat took place at a distance. On the other hand, attention was drawn to certain possibilitieswhere the respondents believed that they developed their ability to take responsibility andtheir ability to take their own initiatives. Furthermore, the results showed that the respondentsexperienced high demands at the same time as they felt that they lacked control during anintroduction that took place at a distance. Although social support turned out to be high onsome occasions, respondents still felt that it was often limited and did not fulfill the samefunction when it was done through digital methods.
