In this study I have looked into one of Dylan Wiliam’s learning strategies Activating Students as Instructional Resources for One Another in connection to grammar studies. The aims of the study have been to examine whether this learning strategy has achieved learning about the chosen grammatical areas and whether the strategy has increased motivation to learn grammar.The participants of the study are students at a vocational programme at an upper secondary. During four lessons the students have studied grammar, first individually and then using the learning strategy Activating Students as Instructional Resources for One Another. On a concluding session the students discussed these four lessons – regarding learning and motivation – in small groups and afterwards they were given time to write down their personal comments.The overall result of the study indicates that working in pairs or small groups is perceived in a positive way in many aspects. Comments like “more fun”, “easier”, “you get to learn your classmates” are common. It is important, however, for the teacher to prepare thoroughly beforehand when using this learning strategy, both when it comes to forming the pairs/groups, and deciding on the level of the exercises at hand.
