En kunskapsöversikt om skillnaderna mellan pojkar och flickors läsförståelse / An overview of the differences between boy’s and girl’s reading comprehension

This study presents an overview on the differences in reading comprehension between boys and girls and explores strategies that can be employed to improve reading comprehension for both genders. The methodology employed in this overview follows the steps outlined by Eriksson Barajas etal. (2013). The initial step involved identifying the research area and defining search terms. In the following stages, inclusion and exclusion criteria were established to align with the study's purpose and research questions. Searches were conducted in databases such as Primo and Google Scholar. Additionally, manual searches were conducted in the reference lists of previous essays to discover further relevant research. The results of the literature review indicate that there are differences in reading comprehension between boys and girls. Research suggests that girls generally exhibit higher reading interest and motivation compared to boys. The test environment and content are also recognized as influential factors. In addition, the results show various strategies to use to develop both genders’ reading comprehension. The result’s strengths, weaknesses, and consequences of the results for the teaching profession are also discussed.
