Background: The purpose of palliative care is to relieve suffering and maintain quality of life for patients and relatives. Nurses have a responsibility in their professional practice to provide person-centered care, where patients' integrity and self-determination are preserved. Furthermore, they also have a responsibility towards the patients' relatives. The care relationship thus becomes an important tool to be able to take into account their needs and wishes in palliative care. Purpose: To create an overview of nurses' experiences of palliative care. Method: A general literature review according to Friberg (2022) have been used. Ten qualitative and two quantitative articles and one mixed-method article have been analyzed. Results: The nurses' experiences showed that education is of great importance. It is needed to create security at work and to be able to meet the patients' needs. The nurses' experience also showed that communication is an important part of palliative care, where commitment and trust are required for it to be beneficial. Supporting patients, relatives and their colleagues is essential in palliative care. Conclusion: Nurses need more training in palliative care to feel safer in their work. Better support at an organizational level and from managers is required so that the work in palliative care feels safer.
