The purpose with this essay was to investigate whether citizens' trust in the police in the Västra Götaland region is high or low and to investigate why this is. This makes it possible with the help of secondary data retrieved from the SOM institute. And for this to be as good as possible we use a quantitative method. After that we tested our four variables using a Chisquare test. Thereafter to investigate further we performed Kendall’s tau_b to be tested on the variables that we would like to see correlation for. We can state that there is a connection between degree of education and trust in the police as well as gender and trust in the police. There is also a connection between the age-groups and high trust in the police. We then compare our results with Putnam's and Rothstein's theories and previous research on the subject of trust in the police.
