Flyktingbarns situation på en flyktingförläggning : - En studie om flyktingbarns upplevelser av deras skolgång och vardagsliv

The aim of this study has been to reach an understanding of how refugee children, who live in refugee quarters, experience their situation, in relation to their daily life and school attendance. Further my intention has been to investigate if the refugee children are segregated and/or excluded in the Swedish society, and if so in what kind of way.     In order to investigate these questions, a qualitative method consisting of five interviews was conducted in a refugee quarter. The study included two boys, aged eight and thirteen, and three girls, aged ten and twelve.   The results showed that the children in the study had experienced both positive and negative aspects of their situation at the refugee quarter. Among the positive aspects were the friends the children made and the time they spent together, playing in the refugee quarters. The children also expressed negative experiences. They were disappointed in their schooling arrangements; the children attend a preparation class. Their needs are not being met and they show a desire to study in a regular Swedish class. The study also showed that the refugee quarters and the children are segregated and excluded in several ways in the Swedish society. The refugees are strictly bound to the refugee quarters area and do not participate in the rest of the Swedish society, which means that the children are not given the opportunity to interact with Swedish children.
