Studiens syfte är att få en fördjupad förståelse för hur socialarbetare arbetar för att möjliggöra för barn att vara delaktiga i utredningar. Studien har genomförts med åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer med yrkesverksamma socialsekreterare i Sverige. Studien tar sin teoretiska utgångspunkt i Harry Shiers delaktighetsmodell samt Thomas Brantes definition av begreppet profession. Resultatet visar att det inte finns någon entydig beskrivning hur barn ska göras delaktiga och att det finns olika omständigheter som kan underlätta eller försvåra socialarbetarens arbete. Föräldrarnas motstånd till deltagande och svårigheter i kommunikationen är omständigheter som kan försvåra barns delaktighet. Faktorer som kan möjliggöra barns delaktighet är arbetsmodeller som kan anpassas till att möta barnets behov och ålder då äldre barn har en större förståelseförmåga än yngre. Det finns således flera möjligheter för socialsekreteraren att göra barnen delaktiga, däremot är det viktigt att socialsekreteraren är självreflekterande och medveten om de svårigheter som finns i arbetet. Det krävs ständig utveckling både inom organisationen och hos socialsekreteraren själv för att utföra ett arbete där barn möjliggörs till att vara delaktiga. / The aim of the study is to get an in-depth understanding of how social workers work to enable children to participate in investigations. The study was conducted with eight semi-structured interviews with professional social workers in Sweden. The study takes its theoretical starting point in Harry Shier's participation model and Thomas Brante's definition of the concept profession. The result shows that there is no clear description of how children should be involved and that there are different circumstances that can facilitate or complicate the work of the social worker. Parents' resistance to participation and difficulties in communication are circumstances that can complicate children's participation. Factors that can enable children's participation are work models that can be adapted to meet the child's needs and age where older children have a greater understanding than younger ones. There are thus several possibilities for the social worker to make the children involved, on the other hand, it is important that the social worker is self-reflective and aware of the difficulties that exist in the work. Continuous development is required both within the organization and with the social workers themselves in order to achieve a work in which it is possible for children to participate.
