They were divided into two different groups: the first one with those that were submitted to thyroidectomy for one year without any prior radioiodine therapy (MIBI-I), and the other group was composed by patients with active disease (MIBI-II). Both groups were formed by 56 and 12 patients, respectively. Overall, 42 patients had Tg>2ng/ml and 45 patients had TgAc>10IU/ml. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of the findings of whole body scan (WBS) with sestamibi-99mTc compared to the conventional method using iodine-131 post therapy in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC); and agreement rate among observers in the classification of the WBS. Calculation of Kappa values for the 131I WBS MIBI-I showed agreement level of at least regular in the bone compartment and at least strong in cervical lymph nodes, lungs and mediastinum compartiment; while the sestamibi-99mTc WBS the best agreement rate was at least regular in the assessment of lymph nodes, cervical and mediastinum compartiment and without agreement in the lungs. In the group MIBI-II, Kappa values for PCI 131I showed regular agreement rate for lymph nodes, bone and mediastinum compartiment, and full in cervical and lung. When analyzing kappa values for the sestamibi-99mTc WBS in MIBI-II it was found that there was at least regular agreement rate among all compartments, while assessing interinstrument reproducibility it was observed that agreement rate in both groups (MIBI-I e MIB-II) was regular and strong, respectively. Besides, specificity and negative predictive value (NPV) were high discriminating not ill patients compared to consensus sestamibi-99mTc WBS. The reproducibilities of the with 99mTc-sestamibi WBS and with 131I WBS after therapy, showed that the ... (Complete abstract electronic access below)
