Sustainable transport is a recurring approach in urban planning. It's based on the global agenda 2030 and the national sustainability goals of Sweden. The subject is versatile but could explain as travel that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to travel. The purpose of this study was to examine how urban planning in Nyköpings municipality works to promote sustainable traveling. The study has examined five different goals which are recurred in thepolicy and strategy documents in Nyköping.Based on earlier theories and research the empirical material of this study shows that urban planning in Nyköping promotes densified structures in the planning with a mix of service, work, and apartmentsnearby sustainable travel opportunities. They also work with mobility management measures to promote long-term sustainable travel.
