Moralisk stress är något sjuksköterskor och undersköterskor kämpar med varje dag på sin arbetsplats. Moralisk stress definieras som negativa stressyndrom, vilka uppkommer när en person inte kan utföra den handling han eller hon anser be-hövs, pga institutionella förutsättningar. Syftet med studien var att utforska i vil-ken grad sjuksköterskor och undersköterskor upplever moralisk stress på sin ar-betsplats. Metod för datainsamlingen var enkätundersökning som utfördes på två avdelningar på ett sjukhus i södra Sverige och resultatet presenterades med de-skriptiv statistik. Resultatet visar att både sjusköterskor och undersköterskor upp-lever moralisk stress. Det som genererade moralisk stress i hög utsträckning hos både sjuksköterskor och undersköterskor var när personalstyrkan var så liten att kvaliteten på vården blev lidande. En signifikant skillnad fanns mellan hantering-en av moralisk stress och erfarenheten bland informanterna. Sjuksköterskor hade i stor utsträckning svårart att koppla av hemma relaterat till moralisk stress. För att bättre förstå vad den moraliska stressen beror på och vad effekterna kan vara krävs ytterligare studier. / Moral distress is something that nurses and auxiliary nurses struggle with every day at their workplace. Moral distress is defined as negative stress syndromes, which arises when a person can’t perform the action he or she intends to do, due to institutional conditions. The aim of this study was to examine the degree of moral distress among nurses and auxiliary nurses at their workplace. Data was collected by using a questionnaire at two different wards at a hospital in the south of Sweden. The result shows that both nurses and auxiliary nurses experience moral distress. What generated moral distress to a high extent among both nurses and auxiliary nurses was when the number of staff was so small that the quality of patient care was suffering. A significant difference was found between the han-dling of moral distress and the working experience among the informants. Nurses found it more difficult to relax at home related to moral distress. Further studies are needed to better understand what causes moral distress and the effects of it.
