With a phenomenographic approach, we study preschool teachers’ perception and attitude to mathematics and the effect these have on their individual teaching. More specifically, we first aim to answer the question of what the preschool teacher's attitude to mathematics is. Secondly, we investigate what the pre-school teacher’s idea of what mathematics is. Finally, we establish how the individual preschool teacher works with mathematics. Using variation theory and Bishop’s activity as our theoretical steppingstone, we conduct qualitative interviews with seven preschool teachers. When combining these interviews, we find evidence that differences in attitudes and perceptions of mathematics can be found within the group of interview objects. The result also indicates that the teacher’s approach to teaching mathematics differs depending on their attitude and perception of mathematics. / Syftet med studien har varit att undersöka förskollärares uppfattning och inställning till matematik samt att se om dessa påverkar förskollärarens undervisning. De frågeställningar som vi har besvarat med studien är följande: Vad har förskolläraren för inställning till matematik? Vad har förskolläraren för uppfattning om vad matematik är? Samt Hur arbetar förskolläraren med matematik? Vår studie har genomförts med en fenomenografisk ansats där vi har genomfört kvalitativa intervjuer med sex olika förskollärare. Vi har haft variationsteorin och Bishops aktiviteter som teoretisk bakgrund. Resultatet av studien visar på en skillnad i arbetet med matematik beroende på inställning och uppfattning av matematiken.
