Syftet med denna uppsats är att beskriva fyra informanters erfarenheter från deras engagemang i en ideell musikförening, för att sedan föreslå vad det är som definierar en meningsfull gemenskap. Uppsatsen utgår från ett kvalitativt material insamlat genom semistrukturerade intervjuer där informanterna förklarar deras syn på föreningens historia, om de anser det har funnits några genomgående idéer, vilken mening det går att tillskriva den årliga festivalen som föreningen anordnar samt vilken betydelse lokalen har haft för föreningen. Informanternas utsagor tyder på att föreningen har erbjudit en inkluderande form av musikundervisning samt att pedagogiken har varit viktig för verksamheten. Vidare tyder berättelserna på att det går att finna en meningsfullhet i festivalen, deltagande i föreningen, samt föreningens tillgång till en egen lokal. Den avslutande diskussionen utgår från vald teori, där det föreslås att en meningsfull gemenskap är en där medlemmarna själva får vara med och planera riktningen för gruppens framtida arbete samt utforma vilka värden det är som strävas efter. / This essay aims to describe four informants’ experiences of their involvement in a non-profit music association, and to suggest what defines a meaningful aggregation. The essay builds upon a qualitative material gathered through four semi-structured interviews, where the informants discuss their views of the history of the association, if they think there have been any important ideas throughout its history, what meaning can be ascribed to the annual festival the association organizes and what importance the association finds in their access to a venue. The result shows that the association has offered a non-exclusive music education and that the choice of pedagogy has been of significance. Furthermore, excerpts from the interviews show that it’s possible to ascribe meaning to the festival, participation in the association and the fact that they have access to a venue. The conclusion is informed by the choice of theory, where it is suggested that a meaningful aggregation is one where the members can be involved in planning the future activities of the group, and where they can be involved in forming what values that are pursued.
