Background: Palliative care at the end of life affects both the patient and relatives. Relatives experience that palliative care differs between different care contexts in relation to nurses' interaction and characteristics. Good communication with nurses is crucial for relatives' experience of well-being and a good meeting in palliative care at the end of life. Aim: To create an overview of nurses’ experiences meeting relatives in palliative care at the end of life. Method: A general literature review was used to analyze eight qualitative and three quantitative articles that were used. Result: The theme The importance of competence in the meeting with relatives showed that nurses' lack of competence affected the meeting with relatives. The theme Support for relatives showed that nurses' ability to provide emotional, practical and individual support was crucial for a good meeting. The theme Relation to relatives showed that nurses' ability to communicate and to create a relationship was crucial for the experience of a good meeting. Conclusion: Nurses need more competence and experience in communication and the dying process to enable a good meeting with relatives in palliative care at the end of life.
