La lactancia materna es primordial para el buen desarrollo integral del niño, su influencia en el desarrollo estomatognático es también reconocida, sin embargo existe poca evidencia científica que confirmen que el amamantamiento influye positivamente sobre el crecimiento de estructuras oro faciales específicas. Con la finalidad de evaluar la influencia del tipo de lactancia en el crecimiento mandibular se realizó un estudio longitudinal de asociación en 90 neonatos atendidos en el HODOMANI San Bartolomé desde abril a noviembre del año 2008. Los niños seleccionados no aleatoriamente fueron distribuidos conformen crecieron en 3 grupos: lactancia materna exclusiva, lactancia artificial exclusiva y lactancia mixta, a todos se les realizaron 4 mediciones antropométricas mensuales de longitud, ancho, alto y profundidad desde el nacimiento hasta los 6 meses de edad. / -- Breastfeeding is determinant to the development of the child; it is also recognized its influence in the craniofacial development. However, there is not strong scientific evidence that confirms the influence of breast feeding in the growth of specifics facial structures. In order to evaluate the direct influence of breast feeding and bottle-feeding in the mandible growth, a longitudinal association research was conducted in 90 newborns treated in the “HODOMANI San Bartolomé” since April to November of the 2008.
The children were distributed while they grow up in 3 groups: exclusive breastfeeding, exclusive bottle feeding and mixed feeding, 4 anthropometric measures (length, width, height and depth) were made monthly from birth to 6 months.
