Previous issue date: 2018-02-28 / This dissertation seeks to analyze and understand the episode of occupation /
evacuation of an area located in the Parque Oeste Industrial neighborhood in
Goiânia-GO, which began in May 2004 and ended violently in February 2005 with
two deaths and hundreds of injured people. The conflict had a national
repercussion and mobilized various sectors of society such as unions, employers,
the press, councilors, deputies, social and popular movements, among others.
The analysis of the conflict takes place in dialogue with the discourse of modernity
that for decades presented Goiânia as an example of progress and a guarantee
of a good quality of life. In the initial chapter we chose to reconstruct the founding
discourse of the city, evaluating how the concept of modernity was present in
power disputes and electoral battles at different historical moments. In the second
chapter the history and memory of the West Industrial Park conflict was recovered
and from the researched sources it is presented the violence undertaken by the
Military Policy and possible cases of violation of human rights in the vacating of
the land. Another aspect analyzed in this chapter addresses how public and
private interests compete for the current city model and whether constitutional
rights are being realized for the population. In the third and final chapter, a brief
analysis is made of the role of the press in contemporary society, observing its
interests and relations with economic groups and political power. From this
reading it is sought to understand how the newspaper O Popular represented the
conflict and that how this representation may have influenced the collective
memory of the goiana and goianiense society. The work shows the perspective
of applying new methodologies in political history and in the critical analysis of
news stories, contributing to the rescue of the History of Goiás and Brazil / Esta dissertação busca analisar e compreender o episódio da
ocupação/desocupação de uma área localizada no bairro Parque Oeste
Industrial em Goiânia- GO, que teve início em Maio de 2004 e terminou, de forma
violenta, em Fevereiro de 2005, com duas mortes e centenas de feridos. O
conflito teve repercussão nacional e mobilizou diversos setores da sociedade
como sindicatos, entidades patronais, imprensa, vereadores, deputados,
movimentos sociais e populares, entre outros. A análise sobre o conflito se dá
em diálogo com o discurso de modernidade que durante décadas apresentou
Goiânia como exemplo de progresso e garantidora de boa qualidade de vida. No
capítulo inicial optou-se em reconstruir o discurso fundante da cidade, avaliando
como o conceito de modernidade esteve presente nas disputas de poder e
embates eleitorais em diferentes momentos históricos. No segundo capítulo
resgatou-se a história e memória do conflito do Parque Oeste Industrial e a partir
das fontes pesquisadas apresenta-se a violência empreendida pela Política
Militar e possíveis casos de violação de direitos humanos na desocupação do
terreno. Outro aspecto analisado nesse capítulo aborda de que forma interesses
públicos e privados disputam o modelo de cidade vigente na atualidade e se os
direitos constitucionais estão sendo efetivados para a população. No terceiro e
último capítulo faz-se uma breve análise do papel da imprensa na sociedade
contemporânea, observando seus interesses e relações com grupos econômicos
e de poder político. A partir dessa leitura busca-se entender de que forma o jornal
O Popular representou o conflito e de que como essa representação pode ter
influenciado na memória coletiva da sociedade goiana e goianiense. O trabalho
mostra a perspectiva de aplicação de novas metodologias na história política e
na análise crítica de notícias jornalísticas, contribuindo no resgate da História de
Goiás e do Brasil.
