Previous issue date: 2010-08-20 / This study aimed to investigate middle-class families´s perceptions regarding the limits set on the relationship between parents and adolescents. Responses were collected from a total of 32 families in city of Fortaleza by utilizing questionnaires approaching several areas in which the educational process is challenged. These areas were classified as domestic world, social world, decision making, communication, degree on freedom, family relations and educational practices. The Systemic theory and Bronfenbrenner´s bioecological model of human development were used as our theoretical support to understand the interaction of the subjects studied. The results were analyzed in the qualitative and quantitative methodology and showed significant differences between the perceptions of parents and teenagers mainly in communication and degree of freedom areas
Keywords: Limits, Parents , Adolescents, Family. / Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar o estabelecimento de limites na relação entre pais e filhos adolescentes na família de classe média. A pesquisa foi realizada com 32 famílias na cidade de Fortaleza buscando compreender como os limites são vivenciados em diversas áreas em que o processo educativo é desafiado. Essas áreas foram classificadas como mundo doméstico, mundo social, tomada de decisão, comunicação intra-familiar, grau de liberdade, relacionamento familiar e práticas educativas. Para entender o processo de interação dos sujeitos pesquisados foi utilizada a abordagem sistêmica e a teoria bioecológica do desenvolvimento humano de Bronfrenbrenner. Os resultados foram analisados dentro da metodologia quali-qanti e aportaram diferenças significativas entre as percepções de pais e filhos princialmente nas macro-categorias comunicação e grau de liberdade.
