Previous issue date: 2010-06-28 / This work proposes a reflection on the importance of narrative for preschool children and the contributions of this practice to the development of oral and written language, with the subject of a class first period of a Centre Municipal Kindergarten in the city of Manaus in State of Amazonas. We stress the importance of access to preschool as a valuable achievement for children, since in this space, you can perform activities that will assist their cognitive growth, social and motor, aiming at learning and building of their autonomy, and suggests contributions that space pre-school can offer, in particular the development of language. Establish an analysis of the contributions of the narrative, taking it as a genre through the legends of the Amazonian mythology, selected from the specific characteristics of literature for children 4 and 5 years. We used the legend of Cobra Grande, version written by Thiago de Mello, the legend of the Victoria-Regia, version written by Stella Leonardos, the legend of Guarana, version written by Ciça Fittipaldi and legend in Cassava, version written by Walde-Sea Andrade e Silva, narratives that provided space for various production activities and involvement, because the legends have elements present in the lives of children who are easily identified and related. With this, the research reveals the interest of children by the narrative, pointing to a unique involvement with the legends, because it awakens the listeners' attention, encouraging the design and reporting experiences, always emphasizing the relationship with the elements of life Amazon. / Este trabalho propõe uma reflexão sobre a importância da narrativa para as crianças pré-escolares e as contribuições desta prática ao desenvolvimento da linguagem oral e escrita, tendo como sujeitos uma turma de 1o Período de um Centro Municipal de Educação Infantil na cidade de Manaus, no Estado do Amazonas. Destacamos a importância do acesso à pré-escola como uma conquista valiosa para a infância, pois, nesse espaço, é possível realizar atividades que auxiliarão o seu crescimento cognitivo, social e motor, visando à sua aprendizagem e à construção de sua autonomia, e apontamos contribuições que o espaço pré-escolar pode oferecer, em especial, ao desenvolvimento da linguagem. Estabelecemos uma análise das contribuições da narrativa, tomando-a como gênero textual, através das lendas da mitologia amazônica, selecionadas a partir das características específicas da literatura para crianças de 4 e 5 anos. Utilizamos a lenda da Cobra-Grande, versão escrita por Thiago de Mello, a lenda da Vitória-Régia, versão escrita por Stella Leonardos, a lenda do Guaraná, versão escrita por Ciça Fittipaldi e a lenda da Mandioca, versão escrita por Walde-Mar de Andrade e Silva, narrativas que ofereceram espaço para diversas atividades de produção e envolvimento, pois as lendas possuem elementos presentes na vida das crianças que são facilmente identificados e relacionados. Com isso, a pesquisa revela o interesse das crianças pela narrativa, apontando um envolvimento singular com as lendas, pois desperta a atenção dos ouvintes, estimulando o desenho e o relato de experiências, sempre destacando a relação com os elementos da vida amazônica.
