Previous issue date: 2014-05-21 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present study aims to investigate the pleasure and suffering from the perspective of professors in Business Administration courses of two private Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The core objective was to verify the experiences of pleasure and suffering of professors of private higher education courses, analyzing the possible divergences and convergences, as well as the strategies of the most commonly used methods of personal and collective defense. To answer the question: What are the professors perceptions of the pleasures and sufferings of professors of private higher education courses in two private institutions in the city São Paulo? , a bibliographic review of the literature was performed. This work consisted of a qualitative study in which the data were collected through interviews with six professors and submitted to content analysis. The results illustrated the coexistence of the pleasure-suffering dynamic in the professors work as well as many similarities between the two institutions. Pleasure is related to the satisfaction obtained in the activity of lecturing, in the interaction with and recognition on the part of the students, in the ability to contribute to the formation of critical individuals, and in the development of the students logical reasoning. The experience of suffering is related to the lack of an equal salary among the professors and their corresponding titles, to the lack of institutional recognition, to the wide range of disciplines that they lecture, to their semester load, to institutional violence, to their extensive work shift, to the conditions of an overload of tasks and the constant need for training, among others. Nevertheless, it is interesting to observe that the fact that the professors do not feel valued by the institution and by society seems not to affect their involvement with and their dedication to the students and their work. Among the professors defensive strategies, what stands out is individualism: professors of higher education search individually for answers to their dissatisfaction. Among the most commonly cited strategies to deal with the suffering, even if unconsciously, is the perspective, in the short term, of being able to leave the field of education, whether temporarily or permanently / Este estudo tem como objeto a investigação do prazer e sofrimento a partir da perspectiva de professores em cursos de Administração de duas Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) privadas na cidade de São Paulo, sendo seu objetivo verificar as vivências de prazer e sofrimento dos professores do ensino superior privado analisando as possíveis divergências e convergências e as estratégias de defesas individuais e coletivas mais utilizadas. Para responder à questão da pesquisa: Quais são as percepções dos docentes sobre os prazeres e sofrimentos do professor do ensino superior privado em duas instituições particulares na cidade de São Paulo? , foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica da literatura. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, sendo que os dados colhidos, mediante entrevistas com seis docentes, foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciaram a coexistência da dinâmica do prazer-sofrimento no trabalho docente e muitas semelhanças nas duas instituições. O prazer encontra-se relacionado à satisfação obtida na atividade de lecionar; na convivência e no reconhecimento por parte dos alunos; em poder contribuir na formação de indivíduos críticos; em desenvolver o raciocínio dos educandos. As vivências de sofrimento estão relacionadas à falta de salário igualitário entre os docentes e à correspondente titulação, à falta de reconhecimento institucional, à variedade de disciplinas que lecionam, à carga semestral, à violência institucional, à extensa jornada de trabalho, a condições de sobrecarga de tarefas e necessidade constante de capacitação, entre outras. No entanto, é interessante observar que o fato desses professores não se sentirem valorizados pela instituição e pela sociedade parece não afetar o seu envolvimento e a sua dedicação para com os alunos e para com o seu trabalho. Entre as estratégias defensivas, destaca-se o individualismo: os professores do ensino superior estão procurando individualmente respostas às suas insatisfações. Entre as estratégias mais citadas, mesmo inconscientemente, para lidar com o sofrimento, está a perspectiva de, em curto prazo, poder sair da área educacional, de forma temporária ou definitiva
