Jongo Dito Ribeiro Community, located in the city of Campinas, in Sao Paulo. Pointing to the
importance that the jongo has in maintaining memories that express contemporary black
experiences, the research seeks to track the conductive threads that establish the jongo
practice as a cultural manifestation and Cultural Heritage of Brazil. It also searchs to
recompose the cultural ties with the people of Central Africa, demostrating this way the
specificity of the jongo of Campinas with the Bantu universe. The research also intends, to
explore, from a postcolonial theoretical approach, issues linked to the jongo's tradition that
demonstrate changes in traditions in the contemporary context to understand the tensions and
negotiations with the hegemonic culture. Since questions articulated to cultural public policies
in the scope of intangible heritage are still recent in our country, this work contributes to the
understanding of the issues related to the safeguard at the federal and municipal levels. It is
intended to think about the importance of preservation of cultural practices of the historically
marginalized black population. Taking oral history as a method, the research problematizes
jongo's memories. It highlights social practices, projects and festivities developed; as well as
the relationship with the public power related to the Institute of National Historical and
Artistic Heritage (Iphan), identifying achievements, advances and difficulties in the
elaboration and implementation of a local safeguard plan / Este trabalho de pesquisa tem como objetivo refletir sobre as ações de salvaguarda
desenvolvidas pela Comunidade Jongo Dito Ribeiro, localizada no município de Campinas,
em São Paulo. Apontando para importância que o jongo tem ao manter memórias que
expressam experiências negras contemporâneas, a pesquisa busca rastrear os fios condutores
que tornam o jongo uma manifestação cultural e Patrimônio Cultural do Brasil. Busca
também recompor os laços culturais com os povos da África Central, demonstrando assim a
especificidade do jongo de Campinas com o universo bantu. A pesquisa pretende, ainda,
explorar, a partir de uma abordagem teórica pós-colonial, questões ligadas a tradição
jongueira que demonstram alterações das tradições no contexto contemporâneo para
compreender as tensões e negociações coma a cultura hegemônica. Visto que as questões
articuladas às políticas públicas culturais no âmbito do patrimônio imaterial ainda são
recentes em nosso País, este trabalho vem contribuir para a compreensão das questões ligadas
a salvaguarda no âmbito federal e municipal. Visa-se pensar a importância da preservação de
práticas culturais da população negra, historicamente marginalizadas. Tomando a história oral
como método, a pesquisa problematiza memórias jongueiras; realça as práticas sociais,
projetos e festejos desenvolvidos; bem como a relação com o poder público ligado aos órgãos
municipais e ao Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), identificando
conquistas, avanços e dificuldades na elaboração e implementação de um plano de
salvaguarda local
