Previous issue date: 2016-03 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Este estudo tenta delinear, a partir das obras “The Swimmer” (1964), de Cheever, e Cosmópolis (2003) de Don DeLillo, como se revelam e como se constroem subjetividades na pós-modernidade. Baseando-se em estudos sobre os diferentes conceitos e faces do poder, suas formas e seus mecanismos, apresentados nos três primeiros capítulos, constata-se a perniciosa influência da ideologia, mais especificamente do capitalismo, na constituição da subjetividade dos indivíduos. Dessa maneira, ambos os autores aproximam-se pela nuance crítica observada em suas obras. Apropriando-se do próprio discurso capitalista e subvertendo-o, Cheever e DeLillo apresentam uma sociedade em que o materialismo e o consumismo configuram-se como o estilo de vida dominante, e a subjetividade é substituída paulatinamente por preocupações referentes ao acúmulo de capital e bens materiais, e à sua própria imagem. Assim, os autores fazem transparecer a alienação e o afastamento social dos indivíduos em relação a si mesmos e uns aos outros, projetando personagens que caminham para sua própria desconstrução, a partir da manifestação de suas falhas e fissuras, contraditoriamente, constitutivas de seu próprio ser. / This study attempts to delineate, starting from the works “The Swimmer” (1964), from Cheever, and Cosmópolis (2003) from Don DeLillo, how subjectivity is revealed and is produced in post-modernity. Based on studies about the different concepts and facets of power, its forms and mechanisms, presented in the first three chapters, we can see the pernicious influence of ideology, more specifically, capitalism, in the constitution of subjectivity of individuals. Thus, both authors display a critical nuance observed in their respective work. By utilizing the capitalism own discourse and subverting it, Cheever and DeLillo present a society in which materialism and consumerism figure as the dominant life style, and the subjectivity is gradually replaced by preoccupations related to capital and property accumulation, and by their own image. Therefore, the authors make clear the social alienation and separation of individuals in relation to their own self and each other, projecting characters that move towards to their own deconstruction, based on the manifestation of their flaws and fissures, contradictorily, constitutive of their own being. / O autor não apresentou título em inglês.
