Previous issue date: 2015-05-19 / Esta tese tem como principal objetivo estudar as possibilidades educacionais contidas em
materiais da imprensa nos primeiros anos da República do Brasil, publicados a partir da
ascensão do Partido Conservador, do fim do Império e do regime escravagista em nosso país,
para fazê-lo nos propomos a analisar as mudanças e conflitos que ocorreram na época como
contexto que gerou um novo regime e novos hábitos. Aqui buscamos estabelecer a relação da
educação e das possibilidades educacionais contidas em charges e histórias em quadrinhos
criados na República, o fazemos a partir do que era publicado na Revista Illustrada, seja em
algumas de suas capas, textos internos ou ilustrações. Assim lançamos o seguinte problema de
pesquisa: “A Revista Illustrada foi parte do processo educacional inaugurado nos primeiros
anos da República do Brasil, colaborando na divulgação e consolidação dos novos hábitos e
costumes que chegaram junto com o novo regime através de suas charges e quadrinhos?”.
Queremos demonstrar que o que a Revista publicou possuía caráter educacional, divulgando
novos parâmetros para a higiene da época, analisando reformas educacionais propostas,
valorizando o surgimento de novas escolas (como a de engenharia) e destacando as figuras
heroicas da República. A análise da mudança dos hábitos e dos referenciais de higiene
corporal, de boa escola e de civilizado nesse período histórico será analisado tendo como
referencial teórico os escritos de Norbert Elias sobre comportamento e controle. Baseado na
hipótese apresentada, aonde acreditamos ter havido influência da Revista Illustrada como
instrumento midiático, colaborando no alinhar da maneira de historiar e transmitir os fatos a
população, na criação de uma espécie de método de transmitir os acontecimentos com um
novo olhar, faremos a análise dos desenhos e textos contidos nas charges e histórias em
quadrinhos da Revista, tratando do que ali foi veiculado nos primeiros anos da República até
o fim de sua publicação em 1898. / This thesis aims to study the educational possibilities contained in press materials in the early
years of the Republican Period of Brazil, published at the rise of the Conservative Party, at the
end of The Empire and at the Slave Regime in our country. In order to do this we propose
analyzing the changes and conflicts that occurred at the time as context that generated a new
regime and new habits. Here we seek to establish the relationship of education and
educational possibilities contained in cartoons and comic books created in the Republic era;
we do this from what was published in the Revista Illustrada, in some of its covers, internal
text or illustrations. So we launched the following research problem: "Was The Revista
Illustrada part of the educational process opened in the early years of the Republic of Brazil,
collaborating in the dissemination and consolidation of new habits and customs that came
along with the new regime through his cartoons and comics? ". We want to show that what
the magazine had published about educational habits of that time, promoted new standards for
hygiene at the time, analyzing educational reform proposals, highlighting the emergence of
new schools (such as engineering) and highlighting the heroic figures of the Republic. The
analysis of changing habits and benchmarks for body care, good school and civilization in this
historical period will be analyzed by the theoretical reference from the writings of Norbert
Elias on behavior and control. Based on the hypothesis presented, where we believe we have
been influenced by the Revista Illustrada as a media tool, collaborating on aligning the way of
chronicling and transmitting the facts to the people, creating a method for transmitting the
events with a new look, we will analyze the drawings and texts in the cartoons and stories in
the comic magazine, dealing with what was published in the early years of the Republic
period until the end of its publication in 1898.
